The TA Workshop Encouraged Participants to Express Themselves in an Immersive Environment
EMI Promotion Office of the Center for the Development of Language Teaching and Research (CDLTR) at Asia University held its second workshop for teaching assistants of EMI courses on May 4th, 2022. Dr. Yeneneh Tamirat Negash, assistant professor from Department of Business Administration, was invited to be the trainer to share his experience in teaching EMI courses. At the workshop, Dr. Yeneneh Tamirat Negash introduced a lot of interactive activities to encourage participants to collaborate with each other in group works and express themselves in English.
The workshop was conducted in English. Through a series of activities, participants had to devote themselves into different missions and work together to complete them. For example, “Two Truths, One Lie” was a guessing game facilitating interaction by requiring participants to introduce themselves with statements mixed with true and false information. Another interactive activity was how to describe the context of a song by using imagination, and the song “Try” by Colbie Caillat was applied for students to make describing sentences. Immersed in a relaxed and encouraging environment, participants enjoyed each activity and felt less stressed to speak English.
Participants gave considerably positive feedback to the workshop; they said that they were impressed by an interactive English environment and a variety of interesting activities introduced by the trainer. The workshop not only successfully engaged every participant, but enhanced participants’ communication skills with a lot of inclusive activities.
