English as a Medium of Instruction

This section provides Asia University faculty members with information on qualifications for teaching English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) courses, weighted teaching hours, and relevant university regulations for EMI course planning and instruction.

EMI Faculty Qualifications

According to the Asia University Regulations Governing Incentives for English-Medium Instruction, faculty members teaching EMI courses must meet at least one of the following requirements and provide the relevant supporting documents:

Degree from an English-Speaking Country
A bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree earned in an English-speaking country.

English Proficiency at CEFR B2 Level or Above
A valid English proficiency certificate equivalent to CEFR B2 level or above, meeting at least one of the following standards:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) PBT / ITP 527; iBT 79
Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) 785 (Listening 400, Reading 385)
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 6.0
Foreign Language Proficiency Test (FLPT) 240
Cambridge English Main Suite FCE
Business Language Testing Service (BULATS) ALTE Level 3
Global English Test (GET) B2

EMI Faculty Training Certification
Participation in an EMI training workshop, successful completion of the certification requirements, and receipt of a certificate.
Weighted Teaching Hours for EMI Courses

According to the Asia University Guidelines for the Calculation of Faculty Teaching Hours and Hourly Pay, EMI courses approved by The Center for the Development of Language Teaching and Research and taught by faculty members who meet the applicable requirements are eligible for weighted teaching-hour calculation.

For an approved EMI course that meets the applicable requirements, the teaching hours for the course are calculated at 1.2 times the standard teaching hours.
The actual calculation of teaching hours and hourly pay is subject to the University's current regulations and final review results.
